EDMONTON – St. Albert city council has delayed a decision on the relocation of a transmission line near Big Lake until its budget deliberations at the end of the month.
The transmission line is responsible for killing numerous waterfowl and obstructs the view of Lois Hole Centennial Provincial Park.
AltaLink and the Alberta government had both pledged funds to relocate the line further away from the lake’s shore, but some city councillors balked at contributing the municipal portion of funds to the project.
At a council meeting Monday, councillors decided to make the project part of their budget deliberations, city manager Bill Holtby said. The city’s portion of the estimated $1-million project would be $450,000 (300,000 plus a contingency fund).
