It is a relief to see that someone, somewhere, remembers the existence of the Migratory Birds Convention Act.

That brings up the question why, if Syncrude can be charged under the Act for not doing everything in its power to prevent the death of migratory birds, St.Albert City Council seems to be immune.

Its refusal to share the cost of the relocation of a bird-killing high power transmission line with AltaLink and the Province–as earlier agreed upon–will ensure that countless migratory birds, who stop over at Big Lake on their way north, will die in full view of the Lois Hole Centennial Provincial Park nature observation platform!

The powerlines are located directly in the flight path of migratory birds.
